Did Nobuo Uematsu know it then?

Did he know this would become one of the defining pieces of music for a generation of gamers? That it would affect thousands, even millions of people, in a way that would resonate with them for years and decades afterward -- even before anyone else knew the context in which it would become so resonant?

It's an emotional gutpunch and a warm hug at the same time. It is both tear-jerking and uplifting. A funeral dirge and a celebration, captured in one piece of music.

It is so uniquely *her*, so perfectly crafted to the character of Aerith both then and now, that it is nothing short of a miracle.

30 years later, it remains one of the most awe-inspiring and emotionally touching pieces of music ever created.

It's just so fucking beautiful.
