Year 44 Halfway Check: Changing Years, Changing Gears
If you want to make progress, you have to leave the place where you are.
I read that sentence a couple of months ago, and it stuck in my head as a perfect summary of the theme of my current year of life: “departure”. But anyone who knows me knows that I rarely live up to these sorts of themes, even when I try.
A few weeks ago, I got a metaphorical bitchslap about just how little I’d done to live up to that theme so far this year. Not gonna go into what it was (because it’s really not relevant), but suffice to say, it was the kick in the ass that I needed to rethink my approach to my life.
In the interests of keeping this short and sweet while avoiding any pity-party bullshit: The change in calendar years from 2024 (fuck you) to 2025 (fuck you in advance) will serve as a turning point for what I plan to do for the remainder of “Year 44”. Less meandering-on-the-Internet, more working-on-things, if you will. I haven’t written a lot, which is funny when considering how many notes I take from social media and Internet reading and such, so I’ll be drilling into those notes and finding stuff to write about for the next six months and change. I’m also considering a change to how this site is laid out by putting the Microblag section on the index page rather than have it be its own separate page. Who knows, maybe I’ll make this whole site look a little better than the minimalist approach I’ve taken so far.
Another change I’m going to make: I’mma keep much better track of the media I consume for the rest of “Year 44”, and instead of doing a year-end list at the end of 2025, I’ll do it on my birthday. I’ve always wanted to do one of those things, but I never kept track of all the stuff I read/watched/listened to for the first time, and now’s as good a time as any to start.
So, yeah, that’s pretty much all I’ve gotta say before 2024 bites the dust. I’ll see y’all in 2025 — and hopefully, I’ll have something more to talk about than myself.
